Spot Light On Florida Eels Elite Goalies: Jake Mork and Matthew Schoer

Jake Mork is a returning veteran of the Florida Eels. He is from Neenah, WI He stands 6’2” 170 lbs. This is 2ndyear playing junior hockey  for the Eels and in the USPHL. As a rookie last season he played in 20 games. Posted a 3.07 GAA and a .912 Sav%. He previously played high school for Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha in Wisconsin where in 20 games he posted a 1.70 GAA for .918 Sav% and he played for the Jamesville Jets where he earned a 1.78 GAA and a .920Sav%

This year Jake came to the Florida Eels training camp very confident. He played over the summer for the Eels at the Pro Am Sr Chowder Cup and did remarkably well. He once again made the Eels Elite team but no mistake he is right on the heals of the Eels Premier team. Once thing for sure the Eels have extremely strong goaltending in both the Premier and Elite teams. In fact GM Scarpaci echoes we have the best goaltending in both Divisions.

Jake has performed extremely well in the games he played in He has played in 3 games thus far and sports a 1.30 GAA. He has a .962Sav%. He has had strong games against the Atlanta Mad Hatters the Hampton Road Whalers and the Florida Junior Blades. These are 3 solid clubs. Jake has aspirations of playing NCAA hockey. He is following in the footsteps of Eels Premier goalie Alex Caron. Alex did exactly as Jake in terms of playing with the Eels Elite team. For goalies it is all about experience and playing. This season we know he will be harnessing a plethora of minutes, and this will speak volumes in terms of his player development. College coaches want to see results and Jake is on his way to proving that. This is a high character young man with the mental toughness and fortitude to lead his team. He has outstanding skill set. Very agile. Athletic. Quick glove and pads. He is very mobile for a big goalie. Loves to challenge he opponents.

He knows his mission. Short term work very hard at each practice and off ice. Second, win his regular games. Third, perform well in the playoffs to advance to Nationals. Fourth….not getting ahead of ourselves but we all know Coach Frank’s statement we are not going there to watch…..Jake and his team can do this.

Matthew Schoer

2001 6’2” 170 lbs. from Long Valley NJ.

This is Matt’s 3rd season playing Junior Hockey. Previously, he played U18 and U16 Tier I AAA. He joined the Eels this past Spring at the USPHL Combine Showcase and played at the Pro Am Sr Chowder Cup. He had strong performances at those venues.

Matt has played in 2 games thus far for the Florida Eels Elite squad and was earned 2 wins. He has an impressive 1.5 GAA and a .955Sav%. Wow incredible numbers from our two main goalies. He led his team to victories over the Atlanta Mad Hatters and the Potomac Patriots. In our season opener, Matt backboned the sweep of the Mad Hatters. Moreover, the win over the Patriots at the USPHL Southeast Showcase was key as we have gone winless against Potomac in the last 3 seasons at the Southeast and Florida Showcases. The Patriots have been our Achilles heal and Matt slam shredded that monkey on our back. Matt is a strong minded goalie. Very good skill set. Quick on his feat and glove. Loves to challenge the shooters.  His mission like Mork’s bring his team to Nationals….

The coaches are very optimistic with the performances of both Jake Mork and Matthew Schoer as our goaltenders.
