The Florida Eels Are Excited About the Signing of 1999 Veteran Left Shot Defensemen Ian Friz 5’11” 245 LBS. from Leesport PA

Friz played one and half years in the GMHL and a ½ season for the NA3HL. He was recruited last year by the Eels when he played for the Eels at the Pro-Am Sr. Chowder Cup. GM Scarpaci noted, Ian joined the Eels this past May at the USPHL Spring Showcase and at the Pro-Am NHL Pre-Draft Jr A Showcase. Has part of the Eels’ Prospects teams he competed against Team Sweden, Team Euro and Team Russia/Ukraine as well as Canada West and top teams in the USPHL. Spring Showcase.  We were impressed with his work ethic, his determination and fortitude in which he displayed during the two showcases.

Coach Frank Scarpaci commented he was very physical and worked very hard in the D-Zone protecting our crease. He had a nice heavy shot that made pucks get to the goalies creating scoring opportunities. He had a great attitude and in fact did capture the eye of one of the New England Colleges. This no doubt is what the Eels do. Garner exposure for our guys and he already came under a school’s radar.

Coach Alex Sanchez also commented his team comraderies in the locker room. He just joined us and he was already integrating amongst the Eels veteran players and other prospects. Ian was invited to come down to 2 weeks of summer training and worked very hard on building his individual skills and conditioning. This was also a great opportunity for him to learn more about the Eels and for us to know more about Ian”

GM Scarpaci concludes Ian is another building block in the Eels mosaic of putting together phenomenal teams this upcoming season. We are thrilled he has joined us for the 2018-19 season.
